To encourage people all over the world to learn more about human development the Human Development Report Office (HDRO) at the United Nations Development Programme has created an introductory course to Human Development Theory, delivered in a scripted PowerPoint presentation in three languages: English, French and Spanish.
The course is FREE to download and can be used by everybody, from students and teachers to policy makers and member of civil society organisations. It provides a theoretical and practical introduction to the human development approach, its measurement and its use in policy making.
The course – which typically takes about 4 hours to teach – covers a range of aspects, including a practical introduction to the human development approach, comparisons to other methods of assessing development, case studies, using human development in policy making, and how to measure and analyse human development.
The course includes additional tutors’ notes and a bibliography for further recommended reading.
